I am only 2 and a half months post op and i've been having some pain on my left side well basically since surgery but it seems like its getting worse and especially if I need to bend down for something the last couple of days!! Now i completely forgot to buy my ulcer meds it seriously just slipped my mind because the first 2 months was basically a blur for me lots of pain and couldn't keep anything down I had no energy at all I was sleeping 20 hours a day!! but it seems like the pain is getting worse and I'm not having any bowl problems and i've had my gall bladder out!! So i'm hoping its not a hernia and just an ulcer

My tests all came back negative for obstruction this time, so I've opted to wait and see if this new prescription works. I tried taking magnesium citrate today because my CT scan said I had a large amount of stool in my colon, however I have been having regular bowel movements. I drank the med and it set my stomach on fire. I was in excruciating pain, this has resolved just as I was preparing to go to the ER. I am waiting now for results.
By the way I have lost 135 lbs and presently weight 148 lbs and I'm 5ft 8
If I resolve the pain I will be a great success story. By the way my surgeon said out of the 1000+ patients he's done the surgery on, I'm the only internal hernia. So lucky me

I am a Registered Nurse who had the Roux en Y gastric bypass surgery in 07/09. I had no complications until 11/2010 when I presented to 3 ER visits with severe abdominal pain. I was sent home each time after being told I was fine. I finally thought about possible complications of the surgery and called my surgeon. He being a colleague of mine believed me and did an exploratory laparoscopy on me. He found a large internal hernia which he repaired. I was ok for another year and I started having severe left flank pain, and nausea, and upper abdominal pain, sort of like when you have gallstones. This time the CT scan once again did not show conclusively that I had an internal hernia. But my doctor did another exploratory lap on me and I had another internal hernia in a different place that was repaired immediately. Since that time I have done my own research, and have found the attached article that shows that CT scans are not conclusive to diagnosis of this problem, and if the surgeon or radiologist is not familiar with what to look for it still will not be found. I am now 4 months away from my last hernia and I am having symptoms again, I will go tomorrow to have another exploratory lap done. You may ask why keep having the procedure, well because this problem is life threatening and I want to be able to tell someone what's going on so they can fix it rather than wait until I'm unconscious and can't speak for myself.
Since I understand that physicians don't always listen to their patients please show the the attached article from the radiology journal. They can read it for themselves. Good luck to everyone, please keep me in your prayers. Here is the link I promised you.

I also had a LGBP on December of 09. Just before Christmas this year I had extreme pain. I thought I was dying. I went to the ER and through a CT they found an internal hernia. I was transported back to my original GP doctor and he did the surgery right away. I felt a lot better but not a 100%. I final started feeling better and did my followup and the doctor released me to full work outs. So I started working out again.
Needless to say, I just got release yesterday from the hospital from the internal hernia. The doctor had to back in and add in addition mesh and make some more repairs. The doctor said it's a result of the weight loss and that I have a void in which my intestines want to go I to that they are not supposed to . Well I hope this is the last time I have to do this surgery.
Regardless, after this surgery I felt like. 100%. Just a little sore from the surgical marks.
Everyone that has gastric bypass should be more aware of the fact that internal hernias are very common and what to look for so it can be caught early. I also miscarried during time as well.GBP does wonders and would not change it for the world, but I wish I would have known about this prior.
