Bariatric Times Announces New Clinical Editors
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WEST CHESTER, Pennsylvania, January 6, 2022—Bariatric Times announced today the appointment of Richard M. Peterson, MD, MPH, FACS, FASMBS, and Jennifer C. Seger, MD, FOMA, as Clinical Editors of the journal, effective January 1, 2022. They will succeed John M. Morton, MD, MPH, MHA, FACS, FASMBS, DABOM, and Christopher D. Still, DO, FACN, FACP.
Dr. Peterson is a Professor of Surgery, UT Health San Antonio; Chief, Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, UT Health San Antonio; and Director, Christus Weight Loss Institute – Westover Hills in San Antonio, Texas. He will represent the surgical side of the journal.
“I have always admired the passion and dedication Bariatric Times has put forward in furthering the overall treatment of obesity,” Peterson said. “This passion was evident under the leadership of Dr. Rosenthal, Dr. Morton, and Dr. Still. I am honored to follow in their footsteps. I look forward to the continued collaboration of surgery and medicine with Dr. Jenny Seger in the treatment of this disease and bringing the same passion to Bariatric Times and our readership.”
Dr. Seger is a Diplomate, American Board of Obesity Medicine, and the Medical Director, Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas in San Antonio, Texas. She will represent the medical obesity side of the journal.
“I am humbled and honored to join Bariatric Times as Co-clinical editor with Dr. Rich Peterson,” Seger said. “BT has long been an incredible resource to all of us on the front lines treating overweight and obesity and I hope to be able to further this mission in collaboration with our amazing colleagues across the country and the world.”
The journal was founded in 2004 and is entering its 19th year of publication in 2022. Raul J. Rosenthal, MD, FACS, FASMBS, was the Founding Clinical Editor and served in the position through the end of 2017. Dr. Morton succeeded Rosenthal and served as the surgical Clinical Editor for four years. Dr. Still was brought on as a Co-clinical Editor beginning in 2015 along with Rosenthal, serving alongside him for three years before working with Morton for the next four years.
Moving forward, under the expert leadership of Peterson and Seger, Bariatric Times will look to expand the topics it covers and the formats in which they’re provided, including a greater emphasis on audio and video content.
“I can’t wait to see how we can take Bariatric Times to the next level,” said Austin Vitelli, Bariatric Times Managing Editor. “We made a lot of progress with Drs. Rosenthal, Morton, and Still at the helm over the years, and I’m fully confident Drs. Peterson and Seger will continue that progress in 2022 and beyond.”
