Dear Colleagues,

Happy New Year! It is my hope that each and every one of you had a healthy, happy holiday season. I would like to take a moment and thank all of you for your support of Bariatric Times. After six wonderful years as Co-clinical Editor, I have decided to step down from this rewarding role. Throughout my time as Editor, I’ve had the privilege of working with an amazing editorial staff. This publication continues to provide cutting-edge information to healthcare professionals worldwide, and I look forward to reading it for many years to come.

I am excited to announce that Dr. Jenny Seger will take over as Co-clinical Editor. I have full confidence in Dr. Seger that she will continue to evolve this publication and deliver engaging content.

In the past six years, we’ve seen tremendous advancements in the field of obesity treatment. Organizations like The Obesity Society (TOS), the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) have all worked tirelessly in pushing forward obesity care. The Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) has also continuously represented the needs of patients at every turn. With all of this said, we still struggle with serious issues in obesity care, such as weight bias in the healthcare setting and access to care. Simply stated, there is still much work to be done.

Obesity rates have continued to increase, and COVID-19 has shown us more than ever that it can be deadly, especially when combined with obesity. We must all continue working to improve the lives of people affected by obesity. Publications like Bariatric Times help all of us connect with one another and learn from each other. I cannot stress the value in this, as tackling the obesity epidemic is going to take all of us, providers and patients, working together.

I would like to extend a warm thank you to Drs. Rosenthal and Morton, and most importantly, the entire Bariatric Times staff for this tremendous opportunity. It was a wonderful six years that I enjoyed communicating exciting news each month. I wish you all continued personal and professional success, good health, and happiness!!
